We have heard a lot about the “wellness sabbatical” trend. It is an emerging trend that mixes work and pleasure. Imagine combining work with zen yoga classes and relaxing meditation sessions or spa treatments? It sounds too good to be true, right? However, it is now a reality.
More and more resorts are capitalizing on this emerging trend, and corporates are buying it too. This way, companies can ensure that their employees are not under too much stress. Hence conjoining work and pleasure in equal measures is the hot new trend. So, by the time the work trip ends, you will remain zestful, relaxed, and rejuvenated to take on more work at the office.
Combining Work and Wellness
It all started with hotels like the Hilton Head Health, South Carolina, where they introduced a wellness program that was a part of the itinerary as much as your Zoom calls and meetings. So while you may not completely be estranged from work, you may add some fun hours in the process. Well, let’s get it straight here, unplugging totally from work may not be entirely possible in today’s world, might as well give it a fun and relaxing connotation.
Unwinding While Working
Many employees are part of the industry where the work pressure is tremendous, and people continuously deliver. The only way to de-stress in such situations is to plan for unplugged retreats. This can combat burnouts far more effectively. Less workload, more yoga, more hiking, more laughter over food, and fun!
Americans are now working for longer hours. Sometimes employees don’t even get that one hour to take their lunch. They’d rather have lunch at their desk. Yes, as many as 34% are too much into their work to take a break from it. So, how bad is this? Well, this may be pretty bad for your physical and mental health.
So, if you are on a workstation in a picturesque place, answering a call or an email is not so stressful. That’s because you will be listening to the sound of waves splashing on the shores or breathing the clean mountain air while on a Skype call.
Balancing Work and Life
This way, you can keep the bosses happy as they will see more work done, and employees will also feel that they don’t have to work themselves to fatigue. These days, resorts have boardroom with all the essentials such as webcams, projectors, and large drop-down screens.
Find a resort that will include many facilities, so you can sign off from work sooner and indulge in the things you had planned, playing golf, swimming, taking long walks amidst the lush greenery, or just enjoying sunbathing on the seashore or beside the pool.
These types of sabbatical leaves may also make you more productive! That’s right. Stress is the number one thing that can eat away your productivity. On the other hand, when you are in a happier state of mind, feeding off the vibes of your friends and colleagues, you may find a new kind of productivity that you may not find within the four walls of your office.
Most people aren’t able to leave their devices behind while on vacation. Well, disconnecting completely is a luxury very few can afford in present times. You may also suffer from what you now know as smartphone anxiety. So, since you are not away from your phone or devices, you may not be completely away from notification from your workplace.
So, just working amidst a place you like without workplace pressures can be a good thing. The location also helps build great camaraderie between employees. This is a great team-building exercise to work together in a relaxed atmosphere with less worry and more fun! Also, it gives them opportunities to people to face old problems with new insights.
So, the next time you are offered a workcation, grab it with both hands. You may never know what fun and creativity, and camaraderie are in store for you till you try it. After all, you may never know the benefits until you give it a go! This workation trend is catching on and not without good reasons! What do you think? How does answering work emails after a hot yoga session appeal to you?
